Bruno has been a lawyer at the “Supreme Court/Court of Cassation” since 2000 and heads the “Supreme Court/Cassation” practice group. He specialises in advising on the success of Supreme Court/Cassation appeals in civil matters in the broad sense, criminal cases, disciplinary cases, social affairs and tax matters, and in drafting and filing applications for cassation, memoranda of reply and memoranda in support of Supreme Court/Cassation appeals in criminal cases.

Bruno's fields of specialization

Bruno advises on the possibility of lodging Supreme Court/Cassation appeals in all areas of law: private law, civil procedural law, company law, liability and insurance law, tax law, labour and social law, competition law, public law, disciplinary cases, etc.

He advises colleagues in drawing up their summary conclusions before the courts and tribunals of appeal with a view to a possible Supreme Court/Cassation procedure.

He conducts Supreme Court/Cassation proceedings on behalf of clients and, if necessary, advises them in connection with the proceedings before the referral court.

Bruno has experience in Supreme Court/Cassation work since 1978, as an associate of the late President of the Bar, René Bützler, and since 2000, as a lawyer at the Supreme Court/Court of Cassation. Between 2004 and 2012, he worked with President of the Bar Ludovic De Gryse, and later (2016) as a partner at Arcas.

The purpose of providing advice on the success of Supreme Court/Cassation appeals is to provide clients with an objective assessment of the likelihood of cassation on the basis of a thorough investigation of the law, the case law of the Supreme Court/Cassation and of other courts and the relevant legal doctrine. If this turns out to be positive, the client is invited to lodge an appeal in Supreme Court/Cassation by means of an application or a memorandum in support of the Supreme Court/Cassation appeal in criminal cases that has been lodged in advance. The grievances and the violated statutory provisions and/or legal principles will then be incorporated into ‘arguments of Supreme Court/Cassation’.

When clients ask for answering to an appeal in Supreme Court/Cassation, Bruno draws up a ‘memorandum of reply’ in which he tries to disprove the other party’s appeal in Supreme Court/Cassation.

Of course, he represents clients at the Supreme Court/Court of Cassation and also acts before the Court in special cases such as challenge requests, requests to withdraw the case from the court, requests for revision in criminal cases and recourse to the court.

In some cases, he offers clients the opportunity to assist them with the drafting of their summary conclusions with a view to a later cassation procedure, which is very useful in most cases.
